by Mary Thorson, Events Coordinator at Runners Roost
Expert staff, excellent product selection and customer service, and community involvement: these are the core values of Runners Roost. I have worked at Runners Roost for 3 years and have been involved in each branch of these words. We have served our community in many ways, but none have filled my heart as much as serving alongside my coworkers and our partner New Balance on Friday, March 31st at the Denver Rescue Mission.
Denver Rescue Mission is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of the homeless in the Denver metro area. Every year Runners Roost and New Balance partner at the Lawrence Street Community Center to serve at the Denver Rescue Mission’s Annual Easter Celebration Banquet. Here we see our community come together to impact lives of hundreds of homeless men, women, and children. The banquet begins at 11am on Friday, but those desiring to attend start lining up at the doors at 8am. Once inside they enjoy an Easter chapel service, have the opportunity to have their feet washed and examined by a podiatrist, receive a new pair of socks and shoes, and sit down to eat a hot holiday meal. The shoes are provided by Runners Roost and New Balance and this year we had the privilege to help distribute 600+ pairs of shoes.
Our Runners Roost staff and race team volunteers served in multiple areas during the event. I was helping to pass out shoes, while our owner Kent Wories worked next to our Marketing Manager and Director of Events Services as a line server, and others were hosts greeting attendees when they arrived helping them to find a place to sit and rest while they enjoyed their meal. All were so grateful, and the smiles and patience on all the volunteers faces brought me true joy. It was an honor to be a part of this event and I am so privileged to work for a company that puts our community in such high regards. I already can’t wait to go next year!
