This month’s Happy Trails takes us from Mountain Toad Brewery (http://mountaintoadbrewing.com/) to the top of Lookout Mountain via the Chimney Gulch Trail. To keep with the “Mountain” theme we will be collecting donations for the Colorado Mountain Club (https://www.cmc.org/), which just so happens to be headquartered across from Mountain Toad in the American Mountaineering Center.
Please be prepared for mixed conditions on the trails (ice, mud, a mixture of both) trail shoes are highly recommended and if you have some sort of traction devices such as Yak-Trax or Micro-Spikes it is better to have them and not need them… As we are getting a later than usual start it is also recommended to bring a head lamp as the sun sets a little after 5:00 p.m. and this run could take up to two hours.
We will have a drawing after the run for entries to the Elk Meadow Trail Race, gift certificates to Runners Roost as well as a pair of Altra Running Shoes, who will be on hand with a fleet of Lone Peaks to demo. Bring your wallet and appetite as the Tony Guacamole food truck will be there as well.
Strava Route as follows: 4.7 miles to Buffalo Bill Cody’s grave, with 1,800 ft of elevation gain. Not a run for the faint of heart. For a shorter option, turn around at Windy Saddle.
We will be meeting at Mountain Toad Brewery, 900 Washington Avenue in Golden at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28th.
