“Oh, the weather outside is frightful.” This opening line from the classic Christmas song “Let It Snow” does not have to define your winter running. Thanks to some innovative technologies and some downright cozy pieces, having the right running apparel can make it easier for you to roll out of bed and lace up your shoes on those cold winter mornings.
When running in winter, there are 3 key things you want to remember when it comes to getting dressed for your run –
1) Dress as though it is going to be 15-20 degrees warmer than it actually is. So, if Mr. Weatherman says that it is currently 35 degrees out, dress as though it is 50-55. This will keep you from being overheated once you warm up and are settled into the run. In fact, you should be a little bit chilly when you first set foot out the door.
2) Dress in layers. Depending on a variety of factors (how fast you’re going, what the temperature is, etc.) try and dress in such a way so that you have a base layer (to wick sweat), a mid-layer (to keep you warm), and an outer layer (to protect against the elements). The nice thing about layering is that you can simply peel off any unnecessary layers if you find yourself feeling too warm while you tear up the streets and pound out the miles. Of course, with those layers, make sure that you have mittens/gloves and hats as needed.
3) Make sure that you have something cozy to change into after your run. Perhaps one of the best parts about running in winter are the plethora of fun and cozy clothes you can wear afterwards. There is nothing like the feeling of putting on a cozy pair of pants and a fleece-lined sweater after your run.
Guess what? You are in luck. At Runners Roost we have everything you need to get out the door on those frigid mornings so that you are running comfortably and strong. We can also help you savor that post-run coziness with a myriad of options for your post-run recovery. We will keep you running even on the coldest mornings, and we will no doubt keep you looking good once you are done putting one foot in front of the other. From Mizuno tights that help trap heat and keep you warm while running (similar to polar bear fur) to Alo Yoga sweaters that are so wonderful you’ll need all the colors, let Runners Roost outfit your life. Stop feeling like “Frosty the Snowman” and start singing with gusto, “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”
Press on and dress well!
